CA-10: Replacing Tauscher

Is this the “dark horse” in CA-10 who will challenge Tauscher-clone State Senator Mark DeSaulnier?  Fog City Journal thinks so.  DeSaulnier is one if the names mentioned to replace Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher who has been nominated for a State Department position.  Here is his official biography.  DeSaulnier just got elected to the California State Senate in November, 2008, and has already voted in favor of the Louisiana-style “blackmail primary” which would allow candidates for office to conceal their party affiliation and turn California into the land of a thousand Liebermans.   He also has a blog.

  1. (1) It’s unfair to blame Democratic state Senators for voting in favor of that amendment. A Republican state Senator forced that amendment in the budget, and Democrats NEEDED his vote and ended up capitulating after days of stand-off. If anything, many who voted for it because the leadership told them to said they still opposed it and would campaign against it.

    (2) I don’t know if it’d be in candidates’ interest to conceal their party affiliation. If it’s a Democratic district and there are 8 Democrats on the ballot and 2 Republican, Democratic voters would still be likely to vote for those with “Democrat” marked next to their name than for the Republicans, even if they concealed their party affiliation.
